Ecological Restoration

Our ecological restoration projects are based on careful site analysis of restoration priorities, constraints, and opportunities.  Our analyses involve understanding vegetation, soil, geology, drainage patterns, and endangered species habitat.

ESC developed from a 1987 collaboration at Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, where David Mahler was the Executive Director and Judy Walther was the Education Director.  The pair capped and restored an old City of Austin dump site and authored “The Process of Habitat Restoration with Specific Application to the Upper Glen Rose Geologic Formation,” which formed the foundation of ESC.
